Top 5 Items for a Baker’s kitchen

When you decided to redo your kitchen, part of what probably brought you to that decision is all the things that didn’t work for you—storage probably being at the top or near the top of that list.  You may know what you DON’T want to see in your new kitchen, but you might not know what’s out there that you can add to make your life easier!

Some things will work better for you than other depending on how you use your kitchen. In this newsletter, we’ll be pointing out the top 5 items to consider if you like to cook or bake.

1. Tray dividers – There are several different kinds—they can be made of wood or wire, can go in either your wall cabinets or your base cabinets, or they can even pull out. Including this in your kitchen will help you keep all those cookie sheets, muffin tins, cutting boards, and even reusable grocery bags organized.

2. iPad/cookbook holder – You’ve pinned all those cool recipes to try and now you can’t keep your ipad screen clean while you’re mixing that batter or adding ingredients to that sauce.  Installing one of these will make it not only easy to read the recipes, but will keep your iPad off the workspace and away from messy ingredients

3. Canister storage – This can be accomplished with the ever popular open shelving—keeping frequently used ingredients in easy view and off the counter. If you’re the type that feels like an open shelf might end up being a “catch all” surface, consider this canister pull-out from Rev-a-shelf.

4. Mixer lifter – If you love to bake, then you probably have a mixer. If you don’t want to leave it sitting on your counter, but merely the thought of lifting that thing in and out of a cabinet makes your back ache, then you might consider a mixer lifter. Leave it on the platform while in use, and you’ll also have a little freed-up counterspace.

5. Spice storage – There’s several various ways to store spices depending on your use. If you plan on having a decorative range hood or a stainless chimney one, then you’re low on wall cabinet space and the lower spice pull outs could be just the thing you’re looking for. There are also inserts for your drawers that keep them tilted where the labels can all be easily seen. If you’re planning on storing your spices in a wall cabinet, you can make them much more accessible by including door storage, or even pull down storage into your design.
